Thanks so much for this. The only problem is that I've now gone from having next to no ideas to having way too many, and my brain can't cope. But seriously, this is so useful. Thank you!

Thanks for creating this wonderfully usefull tutorial! My main problem is that I do do all this semi-consiously whenever i think, well, anything, it just usually comes to me when I cant use it or will quickly forget before using it. ^^;

On another note, my friends (who actually draw stuff, at best im a poet-lit guy with artistic aspirations & 0 talent) all suffer from what I would call "Thinking their unbelieveably amazing artwork is crappy all the time" syndrome. I understand that without such perfectionist urges great work and art is impossible, but they have it too strong, to a point of detriment and pessimisim. Perhaps you should make a tutorial on Artist's Optimisim next... :)

we tend to compare the works of others
and ours soo its not that unusual to see an artist do that just try having fun with it
do a funny doodle draw the person you hate haging on a cliff draw the things you love .
when you have fun your perception of art will change youll think its not a competition
but a playground for playing

thank you very much for this absolutely use- and thoughtfull comment!! i totally agree with you that artistic optimism is a rare thing. but i also think that only a hint of perfectionism forces you to do really great art. it takes some time but suddenly you reach a point you start to like what you do. since you told me about your 0-talent i also have the feeling that you're a bit pessimistic yourself ;). when i upload that tutorial, i will link back to your page for being my tuto-muse :eager:

and your problem with the thoughts: why don't you note your ideas in a little sketchbook? didn't all those crazy literature people carry little notebooks with them all the time ^^;? i also note my ideas, make some quick sketches so that i don't forget about them. :)

On anothr note, im not pessimistic, merely semi-humble, when it comes to my writing and musical ability. Those are my strengths, not visual art, and im only a little sad sometimes that that is the case as these idas come to me. I could easily describe these concepts in words, but I'd feel that they are perfect for a visual interpretation, as i have a cinematic frame of mind for these sorts of things, and you know the saying of how a picture is worth a thousand words... ...that just means more work for me. ^^;

wahhh i hate it when literatur people write comments ^^; (they are always so long and eloquent :XD:). no just kidding! when you feel that you could show your ideas better with visual arts, but think that you're not skilled enough, i'd learn to paint/draw etc. techniques are a matter of will and practice and a very little part maybe is what people call talent. to me the ideas for your images is the more important part. when you know WHAT to draw, but not HOW to draw, then go and learn the know-how. worse is when you know how to draw but have nothing in your mind you could draw ^^;.

I suppose your right, but ive already put myself in a corner there. Right now I probably wont have time for a good long while to learn drawing, but I can manage through writing and music for the time being. Thanks for the insight there, though, i may finaly follow up on it someday.

As for my 'eloquence', this is nothing. I can, and usually do, TALK like this. :mwahaha:

yeah I do, in my backpack, but i cant always carry it with me... and the 0 talent artistically is no joke or overstatement, really. THe ony thing i can ever draw with any respectability is that shoop da whoop face thing, and thats simple.

As for me concerning optimisim and pessimisim, its not so simple. Its true that i have pessimistic tendancies, but im usually (or try to be) an optimist, in the 'it could be worse. much, much worse...' variety if it becomes hard to be cheerful. So close, but not quite. :)

oh man a g uy just like me i used to be the literary type i could discribe all my emotions with words comparing it with rust
metal any object that feels right but
i could discribe iexample( i kept my inner void intact with my hands holding a canvas and with a paintbrush of knives i draw out blood from my veins as if it didnt hurt but ive done it soo many times it still hurts but im used to it then splatter it goes splatter on the window on the floor on the glass on the door on my prison on my carpet
and on my secret door ,on the pond of koi happyness disappers then sorrow takes over oh man i wished i havent commented it made me blue again

Thanks for the good tut :) as a matter of fact ;) the first bit does have a name :) it's called Mind-Mapping :) but seriously, i have never thought to use that to come up with ideas!! :D i usually only use it at work :)

its a bit more worked out than general mindmapping but it sure is some sort of mindmapping. parts of it are similar to a technic i've heard during a psychological course about creativity in industry. but i changed it around so that you can use it for artistic purposes. why not using everyday technics to support your brain for art ;)?
